Influences

I can't count the number of times I've listened to the nine tracks for the upcoming album. One of the songs was started three or four years ago. Four of the songs were started and finished over this last winter. And a few sometime in between.  There probably hasn't been a day in the last six months where I haven't listened to each one at least twice a day. Tweak this, tweak that, replace this part, get rid of that one. It's all about fine tuning to what sounds good to me and hopefully what sounds good to everyone else.

About a week ago I was driving home from work with the stereo cranked and I started to hear something that shouldn't have surprised me - but it did - and was cool enough that I figured I might tell you all about it.

Influences. All of a sudden, in my own music, I could hear bits and pieces reflecting more than a few artists I've been listening to over the last twenty five years. One vocal line was pure Nineteen Wheels. Some of the guitar/lead mixes remind me of Catherine Wheel's Chrome. There's a little bit of  The Cure's 'The Kiss" at the end of my Fade Away. A little Social D on the demo final track.

Last, but not least, I can hear more than a little of my old band mates from Satin Jones. We played together for 20+ years and I can hear those guys in all of my tracks.

We're all molded and comprised of our surroundings and influences. And it's awesome.
